House of Cards Swears in a New Frank Underwood

WILLEM DAFOE TO REPLACE KEVIN SPACEY IN HOC SEASON 3

Executive producer Beau Willimon stated in an interview Saturday that the third season of the popular Netflix show House of Cards would be seeing a new actor behind the desk of Frank Underwood.

“We are pleased to announce that Oscar nominated actor Willem Dafoe will be taking on Spacey’s role as Frank Underwood.”

This coming after alleged disputes on Spacey’s pay lead the acclaimed actor to leave the show. Reed Hastings, Netflix CEO, commented on the situation,

“Spacey wanted money we didn’t have. We are sad to see him go, he has done a great job, but we are, at the same time, excited for Willem Dafoe’s debut.”

The dispute apparently arose after taxes in the state of Maryland caused Kevin Spacey not to receive a pay raise, which he was promised. A spokesman for Kevin Spacey said that he left the show due to creative differences that had nothing to due with the lack of pay.

“The show was moving in a direction that Mr. Spacey didn’t agree with. It has nothing to do with the lost pay raise.”

The spokesman said that he could not divulge what caused Spacey to leave the show but maintained that it was not about the money.

In regards to the choice of Willem Dafoe, show producer David Fincher said,

“We hope that Willem (Dafoe) will bring a winning performance to the House of Cards screen. We feel as though people are looking for a performance more like the one Willem gave in Spiderman.”

Dafoe played the Green Goblin in the 2002 movie Spiderman. His performance received mixed reviews and some viewers are skeptical of the choice. When asked about the choice Dafoe commented.

“I am very excited to work on the show, I am a huge fan! Kevin Spacey is irreplaceable, but I will do the best I can to live up

to his reputation.”

As well as his role in Spiderman, Dafoe is known for various others, such as Sgt. Elias in Platoon and Paul Smecker in The Boondock Saints. Dafoe can now add Frank Underwood to that list.
